Neighborhood Snapshot: Sabin
I thought it might be useful to feature a different Portland neighborhood each week (or so!). I'll start with Sabin, because that's where I live and I'm so enamored of my neighborhood.
STATS Median Home Price: $572,750 (prices have been pretty level since May 2016)
Value change in last 12 months: +11.63%
Median Age: 36 years old Population of kids: Toddlers rule with 220!
Median Household Income: $89.063
The Sabin neighborhood, named after Sabin School, was formed in 1968. Sabin school was built in 1923. Currently, Sabin is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Portland.
Our neighborhood features several commercial centers filled with local businesses:
+ Alberta Street
+ Prescott Village - NE Prescott + 14th
+ Fremont Place: NE Fremont + 14th
We also enjoy Hydro Park, Sabin Community Orchard, Sabin School Garden + Playgrounds - as well as some truly wonderful street murals!
I love walking our dog, Pepper to school and around the neighborhood every day. Some of my favorite places to eat include Bollywood Theater (I love the Pav Bhaji), Random Order (hello delicious Pies!), and Bamboo Sushi (you must try the savory aburi nigiri). My date night spot du jour? Verdigris.
No stop on Alberta is complete without a visit to Healthy Pets NW, where the gals always dote on Pepper. I love to peruse all the cuteness at Amelia, Suite 6 and Frock (among others). Grasshopper is the perfect place for kid gifts - wrapped up and ready to delight. My husband loves any shoes from The Shoe Store. And Grayling Jewelry will be high on my gift wishlist! I love to buy cards at the sliver of cuteness known at Darling Distraction.
So much construction happening on Alberta, right?? Well, I don't have all the answers but I do know that Bishops will be moving into a new space on the NE 20th block. Proud Mary, a cafe/roaster from Australia will lease a space across from Salt + Straw. And have you seen the stunning new Modern Domestic space? Check it out if you're in the mood to get crafty. Their old space is now inhabited by Pop Up Shop PDX. YAY!
